Steps to Stop an Overflowing Toilet

  • Step 1: You need to remove the toilet tank cover and set it down so you can clean it.
  • Step 2: Please put your hand inside the toilet tank and use your fingers to gently push down the valve. This should stop any additional water from overflowing into the toilet bowl.
  • Step 3: Use the float adjustment screw to stop the ball from filling up. Once you turn off the water, wait a few minutes and then enter a toilet. The bowl should fill up a little bit less.
  • Step 4: If the water doesn’t stop filling up in the toilet bowl, hold on to the float and turn off the water going into the toilet. The valve that turns off this water is usually located near the floor or on a wall behind it.
